In Memoriam: Rev. Dr. Daniel Rosemergy

Dan Rosemergy died at home on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 in the care of his wife, Jan. Dan was under Hospice care for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a progressive respiratory disorder.

Leading the Central Mine Reunion services in 1984, 1988 and then annually from 1990 to 2018, Rev. Rosemergy was the longest-tenured minister of Central's history.

Born and raised in Copper Country, the Rev. Dr. Daniel Rosemergy was the son of the late Esther and Silas Rosemergy. He was a direct descendant of two families that lived and worked at Central when it was a working mine and community. He was a graduate of Calumet High School and attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where he earned B. A. and M. A. degrees.

After serving four years as an officer in the U.S. Navy, he pursued a "first career" in higher education administration, primarily at the University of Michigan. His decision to undertake seminary education in 1979 was a reaffirmation of the commitment to the ministry he made as a youth. He received a Master of Divinity degree with honors from the Divinity School at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1982, and a Doctor of Ministry degree from the same institution in 1988.
